Mamaia resort, named “pearl of Romanian Littoral”, is situated in North of Constanta, at 5 km far of this, located on the sandy band, between Black Sea's shore and Siutghiol Lake and is the oldest spa of the Romanian seaside. The first touristical arrangement – a wood deck which enters in the sea, with cabins on both sides, had appeared in 1906. After the first World War, the spa obtains a huge interest becaming in a short time the summer residence of Ferdinand King. The 7 km long and 100-200 m width beach has very fine sand. Due to its excellent location, the breezes which are blowing from the direction of the sea or the lake, mollify the summer's hot days. The beach descends gentle in the sea’s water, being in this way very safe for children and for those who can not swim. In the full-season the spa is bathed by sun 10-12 hour per day. Between 1959-1965 were built the majority of the hotels, villas, Holiday Village, restaurants, campings and became the spa which receives simultaneously over 20.000 tourists (the largest spa from the littoral). In the last time happened a series of innovations and have changed the spa’s aspect. Due to the beach’s fine sand, accommodations' comfort, numerous high standard's restaurants, many entertainments possibility, Mamaia is today one of the most attractive spa from South-East part of Europe, competing with success with the famous beaches from Cannes and Saint Tropez. The spa is the favourite spa of the families with children, thanks to the multiple children fun entertainments and of course to the very tranquil sea. One of the most picturesque place from spa is the Holiday Village which reunite the Romanian traditions from the whole corners of the country. On the Siutghiol Lake is arranged the famous restaurant Hanul Piratilor (Pirates' Inn), built in a ship form. The spa’s temptations are: unforgettable evenings in the restaurants with traditional and international cuisine, cabaret shows, resting on the sea view terraces, dance evenings in clubs and discos. Other facilities in spa: Casino, Summer Theatre (yearly is organized the Romanian Music Festival), sport courts, swimming pools, gardens, nautical sports on the sea and also on the Siutghiol Lake (waterski, scuba diving, yachting, surfing etc). Near the Holiday Village, an other attraction is the aquatic park Aqua Magic, where you have the possibilities to enjoy of the numerous tobogans with different degree and many more amusements. The novelty of the Mamaia’s tourist interest is theTelegondola, a cable instalation which offers the possibility to the tourists to admire the sea and the spa from 50 m height on 2,2 km distance. A similar instalation exist in Europe just in Barcelona , the difference is that in Barcelona the tourists climb up to the Telegondola’s level with a lift and in Mamaia the Telegondola descends on the earth's level.
